Beta-cyclodextrin(CAS:7585-39-9) is widely applied in the field of traditional Chinese medicine preparations.

Its main applications including:

1. Pharmaceutical industry
Cyclodextrin can effectively increase the solubility and dissolution rate of some poorly water-soluble drugs in water. For example, the prostatin-CD complex can increase the solubility of the main drug, thereby enabling its preparation as an injection. It can also enhance the stability and bioavailability of drugs (such as the volatile oil of Tongkang Granules); reduce the unpleasant odor or bitterness of drugs (such as Honeysuckle); lower the irritation and toxic side effects of drugs (such as Diclofenac Sodium); and enable drugs (such as Berberine Hydrochloride) to be sustained-release and improve the formulation.
2. Analytical Chemistry
Cyclodextrin is a chiral compound. It has the ability to recognize and select organic molecules and has been successfully applied in various chromatographic and electrophoretic methods for separating various isomers and enantiomers. In electrochemical analysis, cyclodextrin can improve the selectivity of the system.
3. Daily Chemicals
When cyclodextrin is used together with surfactants in shampoos and kitchen cleaning agents, it can reduce the irritation of surfactants to the skin. Cyclodextrin can also be used to remove oil stains from fabrics. In the dyeing process, the use of cyclodextrin can significantly reduce the initial dye uptake rate of dyes, improve the uniformity of dyeing and the dyeing amount of fibers.
