Dimethyl carbonate(DMC) is a multifunctional organic compound with a wide range of applications, mainly involving the following aspects:
Industrial raw materials:
Dimethyl carbonate is the core raw material for synthesizing polycarbonate(PC), accounting for about 50% of its downstream demand. In addition, it is also used in the production of industrial chemicals such as isocyanates(such as MDI, TDI), involving the plastics, coatings, and rubber industries.
Solvent and additive:
Solvent: Dimethyl carbonate can replace traditional solvents such as toluene and xylene in the paint and adhesive industries, and has low toxicity and environmental protection characteristics.
Gasoline additive: Dimethyl carbonate can increase fuel octane rating and reduce exhaust pollutant emissions, making it a potential alternative to MTBE.
Chemical synthesis:
Methylation/carbonylation reagents: Dimethyl carbonate can replace phosgene or Dimethyl sulfate(DMS) and is used in the pharmaceutical (such as anti infective drugs), pesticide (such as insecticides), fragrance and dye industries.
Organic synthesis: Dimethyl carbonate participates in carbonylation, methoxylation and other reactions to generate key chemical raw materials such as amino esters and isocyanates.
